Most interviews end with the same invitation: "Do you have any questions for us?" It is your best chance to learn what the role is actually like, and to show the interviewer how you think about work.
Questions about the role
- What would success look like in the first six months?
- What is the biggest challenge the person in this role will face?
- How is performance measured, and how often is it reviewed?
Questions about the team and culture
- How does the team make decisions when people disagree?
- What do people who do well here have in common?
Questions about next steps
- Is there anything in my background that you would like me to clarify?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Avoid asking about salary and leave in a first interview unless the interviewer raises it. Your recruiter can handle those questions for you, and will usually know the answers already.
Good questions turn an interview into a conversation between two parties deciding whether to work together.
